How did I get here? Well, it’s kind of a long story. I have one of those long, convoluted career paths in which I’ve done everything from working as a lifeguard to driving a Zamboni (yes, really!) to being a professional dog walker. 

I had a fairly meandering education as well, starting with a BFA in Creative Writing, then pivoting into nutrition and getting both a BSc and MSc in that field. My goal was to become a registered dietitian, but life had other plans and my husband was recruited for a job in Sweden. 

Upon relocating it became clear that it would be much easier for me to fall back on my writing background and market myself as an English expert, which is how I found myself in the agency world to begin with. It was only ever meant to be temporary while I figured things out, but I fell in love with the art and science of branding. 

I loved the challenge of building brand platforms, and making all of that strategy work actually mean something. 

For more than a decade I’ve worked in brand agencies, helping big global players define their brands, but along the way I also started my food blog, Hey Nutrition Lady in 2010. I’ve had skin in the game for a long time and I know all too well how challenging it can be to build a profitable business in this niche. 

In the past year or so, I heard the conversation in the blogging world shift from purely focusing on SEO to how important it is to build a brand… but I didn’t hear anyone talking about what that actually means. 

I know that working with a brand agency typically requires a six-figure budget, but I also know that it doesn’t have to be that complicated. 

So, I created Foodie Brand Lab—a brand consultancy especially for food bloggers.

I fell in love with the art and science of branding.
